SULFUR MINERS

The daily life and struggle of the miners in one of the most acidic lakes on the planet. The Ijen volcano in Java island in Indonesia is knowned for it's sulfur. Every day, miners go up and down the volcano with more than 60kg on the sholders carrying the sulfur on artisanal baskets. Miners get payed by Kilo from Chinese companies that are exploring the area. The average life expectancy of miners is under 60 years old due to the toxic smokes they inhale everyday. The volcano itself has a special caracteristic that makes it unique, a blue flame fire that atracts thousands of tourists every day. As a consequence the company that runs the exploration of the sulfur, had to rise the payment prices as many miners started to switch mining for being tourist guides.
